Preventive measures of cyberattacks on E-Commerce Platforms

With the onset of COVID Pandemic adversely affecting brick and mortar sales, the trend has shifted to an online scenario and especially in India the growth of E-tailors has been significant. With growth of E-Commerce, there has unfortunately been an increase in the risk of cyberattacks on these platforms. There was a 37% rise in cyberattacks in the fourth quarter of 2020 compared to the first quarter. Unearthed Data is the hacker key lookout and treasure which affects both the E-Commerce Service Provider and the Customer leading to monetary and reputation losses. Even though companies have evolved tremendously to counter these cyberattacks, the recent attacks on tech giants are a warning that hackers are getting quite sophisticated. Few steps can be taken to avoid these deadly attacks:
Conducting a VAPT:
A VAPT (Vulnerability, Assessment, and Penetration Testing) will help companies not only analyze but also plan ahead for any possible attacks on the system. This can help identify loopholes in the system to prevent hackers from gaining unauthorized access to sensitive information.
Security Certification:
Security Certifications like ISO 27001 have been provisioned to identify and protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Certified E-Commerce Companies provide the end user a sense of confidence that the E-tailor is taking security and data confidentiality seriously. These firms implement these certifications to manage security of important assets like their employees’ customer and vendor data, financial data and intellectual property.
Bug Bounty Programs:
Companies are often hesitant to offer external testers or agencies opportunities for identifying issues in the platform but the Bug Bounty Program is just the opposite of it. The firms take an optimistic way of identifying issues in the platform for which they will be rewarded. This benefits both parties wherein issues get identified and resolved and the testers gain more from it.
Security of the E-Commerce Platform will always be an evolving goal and would need to be updated to cope up with emerging digital threats and attacks.
